Kathy Pavlich and Fallon
Workshop at Power Paws with Nancy Gyes and Jim Basic
Sunday 18, January 1998
Many thanks to those of you at the Portland Beardie Bounce In who did such an outstanding job with getting out the results! ! really enjoyed the daily excited phone calls from Kathy Pavlich and the detailed daily posts from Mary Lott, Helix Fairweather, and Jim Cooper.
Congratulations to our Beardies who did so well in Novice Agility, making quite a showing among the 135 entered at the Novice level! Kathy Pavlich and Mary Lott did outstandingly well with Kathy's 2nd, 4th and 3rd placement at the 20" level and Mary's 2nd and 1st at the 24" level! Patsch has earned his Novice title with three consecutive Clean Runs and a 1st, 2nd. 1st placement and is now a Versatile Beardie!
In summary:
The star of the weekend was Kathy Pavlich's Fallon who earned three Novice legs, all with placements, and her Novice title. When Fallon entered the Agility Ring on Sunday, the announcer called the whole room's attention to her saying how outstandingly well she had been doing all weekend long.
This was not all, though. Fallon also earned her American Championship this weekend. According to reports, Dixie Rae, Fallon's outstanding handler surpassed herself with Fallon, earning 13 points in 4 shows! 9 days ago Fallon took a four point BOW at the Skyline Show in San Mateo. Then this last weekend in Portland took a 4 point BOW at the Friday Tualitin Show and a 4 or 5 point BOW/BOS on Sunday at the Oregon Dog Fanciers Show. Dixie was dancing around singing, "And this Beardie also does agility!" She is looking forward to showing off her photo book at the Cow Palace (our Northern CA annual benched show) of the Beardies she has handled who do both conformation and agility. Kathy is also delighted with her youngster, Solo, Chantilly's Woofgang Amadeus, owned by Cindy Nellipowitz and breeder handled by Kathy, who took a Reserve on Friday and Winners Dog (4 point major) on Sunday. As she said in her excited phone call, "Libby, it just doesn't get any better than this!"

Having conquered the dreaded flyoffs, this outstandingly fast Beardie has now discovered the table overshoot! Kathy has also learned that 99% of all agility errors, once one's Beardie is well trained, are handler errors. On Saturday Kathy heard the table count "5-4-3-2-1" but didn't wait for the "Go!" Fortunately she realized her mistake and put Fallon back on the table. (too quickly it seems) "Oops! off the table! Oh, no!" "Oh well, we still came in 4th!" On Sunday, it was, "We got our title, Whoopie! Let's see how fast we can run! Oh, no! not off the table again!" Kathy had a good laugh with Nancy Gyes, afterward. Nancy had just won High in Trial at the MX level on Friday and Saturday (don't know the Sunday results for International and MX, yet) Nancy hosted our NCBCF Workshop and Sanctioned A Trial in August and Kathy attributes her success to Nancy and Jim's training, as well as to the special workshops she has had with Tammy Wiebe and Candy Gaiser. Kathy really knows how to work with her Beardies. She doesn't let her isolation behind the Redwood Curtain get in the way of training. If she can't get to class, she invites the trainers up for Weekend Workshops or travels to our Club's workshops or for private lessons. She is now eagerly looking forward to her training session with Nancy in February.
We look forward to seeing Kathy in February when she will judge conformation for our NCBCF Sanctioned A Match, hopefully our last hurdle before full club licensing (which we already have in Agility.)
The second star of the weekend is Mary Lott's Patsch

To quote Jim's Sunday post: "I just had to let everyone know that today I received two phone calls from Jane, the tone of which definitely indicated she was floating somewhere high above the Portland area... the first phone call was to relate the above, with her two agility dogs both qualifying today. Yesterday, Betel did not qualify, but Emmie did, so today was Emmie's 2nd leg. And of course, thinking that Emmie was such a novice to agility, Jane had decided not to enter her in tomorrow's show. Betel's run today was evidently pretty fast; and Jane, being the sedate, calm person you all know her to be, (NOT), had an exhuberant celebration with Betel as they came out of the ring... to the extent that she had one lens of her eyeglasses knocked out.
But then came the second call this evening. Our Danni (Lady Eridani of Alamos) took a 4 point major today, going Best Opposite (and Best of Winners). Now, if you can possibly imagine Jane being excited about the agility legs, you may have some vague notion of her feelings about this second event.
Congratulations, Jane on Em, Betel and Danni!"
Congratulations to Cindy Nellipowitz and Solo (Chantilly's Woofgang Amadeus), who got a reserve on Friday and a four point WD on Sunday.
Congratulations to Cindy and her girl Risky (Sunshine's Risky Business) who qualified in Agility on Friday and on Saturday.
