Annie, named after Annie Oakley, was born to work. From the day she came to live with us at 10 weeks old, she kept herself busy. If we didn't create work for her, she found her own. Around the house, her main job was to protect her family. She would not eat until she made sure her cat, Count, was on the dryer eating his dinner. Nothing ever happened around this house without her knowing about it. I don't know when she ever slept. Annie grew up to become an extraordinary working girl in obedience, herding and agility. She earned her Companion Dog Excellent title in obedience, competed at the started level in herding, winning an AHBA trial dog High in Trial and an AKC Reserve High in Trial, and ultimately earned her Master Agility and Master Jumpers with Weaves when she was 10.5 years old.
She was a wonderful beardie ambassador to the world, loud whenever she could be and quiet when it was necessary. Everybody in our neighborhood knew her. A couple who lives nearby even named themselves her godparents. Women always marveled at her fawn coat, commenting that they had tried for years to get their hair her color.
Annie was my companion. I could always count on her to be there. One little whistle and she would come from wherever she was to see what I wanted and to give me a kiss. We grew to know each other very well, which showed in our agility runs. We could read each other's moves before they happened. She knew me inside out and taught me more about working with dogs (which translates into working with people) than anybody else has been able to. Through her, I met many of you.
Annie, we miss you terribly.
Love, Sharon and Joe
Annie is one of the first Beardies I ever met. I had never seen a fawn before Those eyes just leapt out at you. Another Beardie bud said she remembered a picture taken at an agility trial with Sharon crouching down beside Annie, arm around her neck, waiting at the start line. Perhaps it was taken in the late afternoon or early morning, but the sun was full on them making Sharon's red hair gleam and Annie's coat pick up the color and reflect physically what their longtime partnership really was. Both are looking forward, intent and focused. I think THAT is the way I will remember Annie. -- Honored friends of Sharon and Annie, Mary, Patsch & Harper
I'll always remember Annie & Spiff & Skye as agility pioneers. She was the Princess and they were the Knights. -- Iris and Spiff
Annie was invariably sweet and of a strong and willing disposition. She and Sharon were truly a team in every sense of the word! Annie will be greatly missed! -- Libby and Skye
Remembering a sweet Beardie -- Sarah Halsey
Few competitors have grace, great scores and goodness of heart. When a member of such a team leaves, she leaves the path for the rest of us and the will to follow her way. -- Christiana Taylor
