Imagine a sunny day in the mid to high 70s with a slight breeze. You’re standing in a smooth cut grassy lawn surrounded by several other beardie agility handlers. On the grass is an agility course waiting for you to take your turn to run it. The first class of the day had a 100% Q rate. Does it sound too good to be true? It’s not. That was what we all experienced at the April NCBCF agility trial on April 16, 2009.
It was great to see several friends I don’t get to see very often. I also met a few new agility diehards who are early in their agility lives. In addition, I met Iris Berry, a beardie agility pioneer, for the first time.
We ran FAST, Standard and Jumper with Weaves courses in that order. High in Trial for each course was earned by three different teams. I designed each course to have portions that allowed the dogs to stretch out and run to their full potential. I think that was achieved.
None of this could have happened without the hard work of the committee and club members who worked throughout the day. I especially want to thank Steve Lausmann who tirelessly helped build every course. Thank you for having me. I really enjoyed judging and the opportunity to meet and talk with the beardie handlers.
Jeff Ipser
We had a lovely day for our 9th Annual Northern California Bearded Collie Fanciers Regional Specialty Agility Trial. The conditions at WAG were perfect. The day was sunny and mild. The agility lawn was broad and smooth. Best of all we had nineteen enthusiastic participants, though we missed those who had to stay home due to illness and today's financial climate.
We enjoyed having Jeff Ipser as our judge, who designed courses especially for our Beardies with parts that opened up to let our Beardies run. A special touch was having a leisurely lunch between rally and agility with a chance to visit with him and each other. Though Jeff kept things running, the atmosphere stayed relaxed.

Of course we could not have had a successful trial without our many helpers, especially our Chief Ring Steward, Jana Dozet, our Chief Course Builders Jack Buhite and Steve Lausmann, and our Trophy Chairs Barbara Claxton and Sharon Prassa. Our Trial Secretary, Lorie Abbott, was efficient as usual but had a great time socializing with us. "Your club was so much fun to hang around! Even the judges had a great sense of humor and were friendly." Lorie is eager to invite Jeff back for future California trials.
