Hi Libby
Maggie and I had a not so good experience in April at a local AKC Trial. So we re-grouped and took care of a few issues. I decided to test the waters with a local UKC Trial...."Competition Dogs of the Ozarks". Not knowing too much about UKC and their Agility Trials, I decided to just register and enter Maggie. So off we went July 14 + 15
What a nice change of pace. Pat Guticz was the judge. Her explanation of UKC Agility was quite unique! "The Dressage of Agility"..."You don't need a speed demon to qualify"..."and above all, have fun"...
On Saturday (7/14) our 1st run went very well. 199 out of 200 and 1st. 2nd run, also went well, 199 and 2nd.
After asking permission from the judge to look at the score sheet (I wanted to know where/why) I learned what we needed to work on. UKC has a very different focus for sure. Perfection in dog's performance of the obstacles and handlers work. On the 1st run we got 1 point off due to Maggie cutting the corner coming off the dog walk and on run 2, she had a hesitation on to the pause table...2 runs before ours, the dog had an "accident" on the table. So this is life...Anyway the judge was very helpful in explaining where points came off and why. Learned a lot.
On Sunday it was a different story...1st run, 200 and 1st with a new AGI Title, and run 2 with a score of 200 and and another 1st.
Maggie sure knew that she did well. She went strutting around the house for 2 days, absolutely full of here self. A very welcome change form April for both of us.
UKC's approach to agility is a nice refreshing change.
