Goals for 2009-2010:
We will continue discussing a scoring method for the AKC FAST class and its place within the BCCA Agility Awards and Register of Merit programs. A FAST trophy has been proposed by Sarah Halsey for the top FAST Beardie. We will continue discussing the scoring systems for BCCA Certificates for Standard and Jumpers with Weaves and make a proposal to the Board on these topics.
Activities and Major Accomplishments:
A. Trials:
The Bearded Collie Club of America holds an annual National Specialty agility trial.
Jeff Ipser chairs annual BCCA all breed agility trials as BCCA fund-raisers.
Joanne Williamson chaired a BCCA all breed trial, which brought in more than $5300 for the 2009 Specialty Fund.
Libby Myers-Buhite chaired the Northern California Bearded Collie Fanciers 9th annual Beardie-only Regional Specialty agility trial.
The National Capitol Bearded Collie Club, the Northwest Bearded Collie Club of Puget Sound, and the Northern California
Bearded Collie Fanciers hold between two and four all-breed agility trials annually.
B. Publication:
The Agility Committee fosters the sport of dog agility through publication in the Bagpipes and the Beardie Bulletin. Milestones, explanations of new classes and rule changes, agility events, and tributes are published in the Bagpipes, as well as the annual report. All AKC Titles and BCCA Awards are published in the Bulletin, as well National Events and articles on the sport. The Beardie Agility Diehards (BAD) pay for all agility pages above the yearly allotment and for the publication of USDAA, NADAC, CPE, and UKC titles as well. Over the last twelve years the Diehards have sponsored 154 pages in the Bulletin and contributed $13,565 toward publication.
C. Internet:
The BCCA website's Agility Section contains agility articles and a link to the Beardie Agility Diehard website (www.beardieagilitydiehards.org). The BAD website, started on New Year's Day 1998, has a large section devoted to BCCA Agility, listing the current BCCA Agility Committee, the complete list of BCCA Agility Award winners since 1996, the Register of Merit for Agility, the National Specialty results starting with the first trial in 1996, and the annual agility reports. Regional Clubs' Agility Trials are featured as well. Currently there are 556 Agility Beardies on the BAD Website, including 504 at home and 52 abroad. Of these, 450 have earned legs and titles in the five United States dog agility organizations and 404 are BAD. The Beardie Agility Line, started in January of 2000, brings together the Agility Community from the USA and around the world to help those new to the sport, to discuss techniques, and to share agility successes and questions. Currently we have 263 members. Joanne Williamson publishes the BCCA’s year end AKC Awards to the line so that they can be confirmed before being printed in the Bulletin. Libby Myers-Buhite publishes the USDAA, NADAC, CPE and UKC titles and standings.
D. AKC Correspondence:
Libby Myers-Buhite contacted the American Kennel Club about the correct procedure for holding our annual National Specialty Relays as a “Special Attraction.”
Jeff Ipser has asked for and received details relating to the new FAST and TTB classes, with their respective titles.
Statistical Information
173 Beardies have done agility this last year. 161 did AKC agility, 31 did USDAA, 18 did CPE, and 17 did NADAC. Between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009, Beardies earned more than 2987 legs in these four venues combined.
American Kennel Club-AKC
427 Beardies have earned legs since 1994. Twenty-six Beardies have earned championships (MACHs), eight have earned MACH2, four have earned MACH3, three have earned MACH 4 and 5, and two have earned MACH 6, 7, 8, and 9. During 2008, 161 Beardies earned a total of 1,908 legs in the Regular, Preferred and FAST classes with 943 placements in all breed and Specialty competition. 113 of these teams accounted for 214 total titles (93 Novice, 48 Open, 40 Excellent, 25 Masters, and 8 Championships). The level of participation in the Regular classes was up 4% from 2007 but fewer titles were earned (256 in 2007 vs 214 in 2008) primarily because of a decrease in the number of FAST titles (76 in 2007, the first year of FAST competition vs 47 in 2008). The number of Beardies competing in the Preferred classes dropped from 28 in 2007 to 19 in 2008. Five teams competed at the 3rd AKC Agility Invitational in Long Beach, CA. Linda Porter and Mika (Fox Lane’s Mika At Tweeddale) made the finals and placed 3rd in the 20” class and 4th overall in the Herding group. Six teams qualified and two teams competed at the 2009 AKC National Championships held in Concord, NC in March, 2009. Sarah Halsey and Wizard (Anasazi Secret Of The Wizard) added to their record of Beardie agility “Firsts” by earning their MACH8. Jeff Ipser and Zoom (Wigglesworth Super Sonic) became the first team to finish three MACH titles (5, 6, and 7) in one year. Pat Morse and Rooter completed the first XFP. Heather Gahres and Elton (Brampton’s Pinball Wizard) earned the first NF from Novice A.
