The DIEHARD Agility Trophy
Proposed by Libby Myers-Buhite, BCCA Agility Chair, Karen Barratt, BCCA Co-Agility Chair, and the entire BCCA Agility Committee on behalf of the Beardie Agility Community (Beardie Agility Diehards)
The BCCA Agility Committee has been considering the need for an overall Top Trophy, to be called the "Diehard Trophy," since the 1999 Specialty. After seventeen months of discussion with each other and with the Agility Community as a whole, the entire BCCA Agility Committee are in complete agreement as to the necessity of this Award and we unanimously support the criteria being proposed. We feel that the current Top Trophy, the Denia, does not reflect the changes in AKC Agility which have taken place since it was formulated in 1994. The Denia awards Standard Agility but does not recognize Jumps with Weaves or any legs beyond the Masters title. To date 14 Beardies have earned the AKC Masters Standard title and are beyond the scope of our current "highest" award. Both Glenn Hamilton and Emily Venator, the Denia sponsors, are supportive of this proposed award and wish the Denia to remain unchanged.
In 1998 AKC introduced Jumps with Weaves and in 1999 AKC introduced the Championship Program which requires much more than the two Masters Programs, a minimum of 40 qualifying Excellent level runs, as well as many challenging requirements, such as 20 Double Qualifiers (Excellent B Standard and Jumpers legs earned on the same day) and 750 Championship Points based on beating Standard Course Time.
76 Beardies are now competing at the AKC Excellent/Masters level. Of these, 39 Beardies have earned AKC Excellent titles and are eligible to compete in the AKC Championship program.* We are very proud of these Beardies and the entire BCCA Agility Committee, on behalf of the Agility Community, would like to propose a new trophy, the "Diehard Trophy," to honor the achievements of Beardies competing at the Excellent Level or higher.
The Diehard Trophy
The Diehard Trophy is formulated to be the Top Trophy in the BCCA/AKC Agility Program. It will reflect the changes in AKC Agility and reward performance at the Excellent Level and beyond in BOTH Standard and JWW Agility. As the Top Trophy, it will grow to include other AKC additions such as the International Steeplechase Class (ISC). The criteria will be expanded by the BCCA Agility Committee, in consultation with the Agility Community, as AKC introduces new classes and resubmitted to the BCCA Board for approval.
This Trophy is proposed and will be financed
by freewill donations from the BCCA Members within the Beardie
Agility Community (Beardie Agility Diehards). Libby Myers-Buhite
will co-ordinate the collection of donations.
The Diehard Trophy will be designed by Chet Jezierski. Chet, Libby,
and Karen Barratt will work together on the design so as not to
duplicate the Denia or the Jumps with Weaves trophy ( proposed
by Beth White). Durability will be taken into account.
We would like the Diehard to be awarded retroactively until 1999, the year that the Championship Program was introduced.
-14 February 2001
* As of today 120 Beardies are competing at the AKC Excellent/Masters level. Of these, 67 Beardies have earned AKC Excellent titles and are eligible to compete in the AKC Championship program. 17 Have earned the "Double Masters. 4 have earned the MACH.
- 11 December 2002
The Diehard Trophy for Overall Excellence in AKC Agility is supported by the freewill donations of the Beardie Agility Community (Beardie Agility Diehards).
Criteria:
The BCCA Agility Committee has devised a system to award an "Overall High" trophy based on everything it takes to be a truly fine Agility Beardie: accuracy, speed, and performance ranking. Therefore, we want to consider all "Clean Runs" (100 points), "Time Points" figured according to full seconds faster than the Standard Course Time, and "Placement Points" based on a predesignated number of points for class ranking.
Award Year: January-December, based on March to March Awards.
Minimum requirement:
3 Excellent level Clean Runs in Standard and 3 Excellent level Clean Runs in Jumps with Weaves in Excellent A and/or Excellent B are required.
Scoring:
Clean Runs (Accuracy)
10 points for each Clean Run/ 0 for
less than Clean Runs
All Clean Runs at the Excellent Level and higher
will be considered, both in Standard and in JWW.*
Time Points (Speed)
1 point for each full second under Standard Course Time
All points from qualifying runs at the Excellent Level and higher will be considered, both in Standard and in JWW.*
Placement Points (Performance Ranking)
1st to 4th place will be considered.
All points from qualifying runs at the Excellent Level and higher will be totaled, both in Standard and in JWW.*
10 for first, 9 for second, 8 for third, 7 for fourth, irrespective of the class size.
*Only the three legs toward the title will be counted in Excellent A.
Diehard Points:
Total all of the above
