Libby Myers-Buhite, BCCA Agility Co-Chair
Just prior to the 2000 Specialty I accepted the appointment as your new BCCA Agility Chair. As a member of the Agility Committee for the last four years, I have been in contact with most of you and have enjoyed hearing your stories and publishing your statistics. After conversations with many of you, I founded the Beardie Agility Diehards (BAD) in early 1997. With Karen Norteman's help I started a website called "We're BAD," which is home to 199 Agility Beardies, and initiated a BeardieAgility List so that we can communicate with one another about training tips and trial successes. Our organization is well known in the Agility world and many wish that their breed clubs had such a fabulous, fun-filled website and the sense of community that we enjoy. I am also the Agility Chair for the Northern California Bearded Collie Fanciers, where our 24 Agility Beardies have earned 168 Agility titles. We look forward to our first Regional Specialty Agility Trial on March 9, 2001, at Nancy Gyes' Power Paws, where Jack, Skyedance, Caper and I train.
I am thrilled to be working with Karen Barratt, our newly appointed Agility Co-Chair. Karen trains with Jane Simmons-Moake at the world renowned FlashPaws of Houston, Texas, and makes the long round trip from Galveston twice a week to work with Boo! (Ch O'Duinnin Picabo Streak, MX, MXJ, AD, OAC, OJC, NGC, HIC, ROMAX) and her three year old Jet (O'Duinnin HMT Sonic Boom, MX, MXJ, AD, NAC, NJC, NGC). Karen competes in three of the US Agility venues: AKC where she has earned four Masters titles, USDAA, and NADAC. We all celebrated when Jet earned his MX at the Fond du Lac Trial during the Specialty!
Together Karen and I have drawn up the Agility Committee for 2000-2001. Our committee includes most of the top agility competitors in the country and covers all geographical regions. Ten have earned Versatility Excellent titles and one has the Masters in Versatility. All have great expertise in advising and in deciding what to look for in drawing up the top Agility Trophies, which is our primary task for this year. Between the fifteen of us we have earned 331 Agility titles in all six of the North American Agility Venues. All Committee members from last year are continuing on and we have added five new members: Leslie Dawson-North, Charles Gibson, Sarah Halsey, Sharon Prassa and Betty Winfield.
