BCCA Agility Committee - 2012 - 2013

Libby Myers-Buhite As a member of the Agility Committee since February of 1997, I have been in contact with most of you and have enjoyed hearing your stories and publishing your statistics. After conversations with many of you, I founded the Beardie Agility Diehards (BAD) in April of 1997. With Karen Norteman's help we started a website called "We're BAD," which is home to 643 Agility Beardies, and initiated a Beardie Agility List so that we can communicate with one another about training tips and trial successes. Our organization is well known in the Agility world and many wish that their breed clubs had such a fabulous, award-winning, fun-filled website and the sense of community that we enjoy. In July of 2000 I was asked by Rosemary Schroeder to be the BCCA Acting Agility Chair and in September I accepted the appointment as your BCCA Agility Co-Chair. I am also the Agility Chair for the Northern California Bearded Collie Fanciers, where our 70 Agility Beardies have earned 1234 Agility titles, including 26 Championship titles (17 AKC MACHs, 1 PACH, 2 USDAA ADCHs, 2 NADAC-NATCH/VERS-NATCH, and 4 CPE C-ATCHs). We have held twelve Regional Specialty Agility trials and are looking forward to our fifteenth and sixteenth all-breed AKC trials in October. Together Jack and I have trained four agility Beardies, Skye, Caper, Ceilidh and Skyelark. Skye, Caper, and Ceilidh are Versatility Excellent Beardies and Caper won eight Highs in Trial both at the Nationals and the NCBCF Regionals.

David Williamson is our BCCA Co-Chair. David has a lot of experience with Agility, having put a MACH2 on Harley and being the first to earn a PAX and the MXP6 MJP7. Harley won the Veteran trophy several years running. Now for a few words from David: "Wow! I’ve got a tough act to follow... Joanne is a powerhouse go-getter who loves data, information, and numbers (retired career scientist) and once shared with me the spreadsheet she created and still uses to keep our agility statistics. I was in awe then, and now find myself very thankful she made the decision to continue maintaining said spreadsheet --- I shudder to think about my job description including the continuance of that file! A sincere thank you, Joanne, for such a vast quantity of work. Now... my first task as co-chair will be to grab a piece of fruit, go sit under the shade tree, and generate ideas for our agility doggies so that I don’t come off looking like a slacker. As I said before, I’ve got a tough act to follow!"

Joanne Williamson has recently rejoined the Agility Committee after serving for a year as BCCA President. She has been working with the Agility Committee since 1997, keeping track of all of the AKC legs and titles earned by our Beardies. Joanne was Co-Chair of the Agility Committee from 2004-2010. She has been instrumental in working out the point systems for all of our BCCA Awards. Joanne has trained seven Agility Beardies, Corey, Sean, Rob, Beau, Belle, Flash, and Jack. Sean holds the distinction of being the first Beardie to earn the AKC championship, the MACH. Flash has earned his MACH as well. Six are Versatility Excellent Beardies and Flash has his Master Versatility. Sean, Rob, and Belle have taken Highs in Trial at our BCCA Nationals. Sean won the Denia Award for 1998, the Diehard Trophy for 1999 and 2000, and the Jumpers Trophy for 1999 and 2000. He also held the distinction of being "top AKC Beardie" in 1999 and 2000. In 2009 Joanne chaired a BCCA agility trial fundraiser in Amhurst NH and raised more than $5300 for the 2009 Specialty Fund! She outdid herself in 2010, earning $6500!

Since September of 2000 we implemented the BCCA Trophy for over-all accomplishment in AKC Agility, the Diehard Trophy (sponsored by the Beardie Agility Diehards and designed by Chet Jezierski), and the Jumpers with Weaves Trophy in honor of Mirage (sponsored by Beth White and designed by John Stanbridge). In 2004 we decided to make BCCA MACH ribbons available at all of our National Specialties. Karen Barratt designed and donated the ribbons for this. In 2006 we awarded the Veteran Preferred Trophy (sponsored by Carl and Kay Widell). In 2010 we revamped the scoring system for all of our existing awards. We worked closely with our entire Agility Committee, especially Joanne Williamson on the point systems for these awards, which have been approved by the BCCA Board.

Thank you to those continuing on the Agility Committee for 2010-2011. We have 13 members, drawn from across the United States. All of the committee's members have extensive experience in the sport, having titled multiple Beardies and earning many agility Championships and even Masters in Versatility.
